The Ministry of Natural Resources has officially wrapped up the 2013 Forest Fire season in Northwestern Ontario.
Information Officer Heather Pridham says it was a pretty quiet season, with 357 fires burning 44,124.2 hectares.
The Red Lake district saw the highest number of fires at 69, burning 22,270.9 hectares.
Sioux Lookout came in second with 68 fires burning 11,050.7 hectares.
Dryden only saw 39, which burned only 20.1 hectares.
Pridham says the main cause of the fires was lightning, which was responsible for 188 of them.
That’s down from 386 last year and 638 in 2011.
Pridham says although the forest fire season is over, they are now making preparations for next year, including going over policies and procedures.
