Forest Merger in Jeopardy?

The Weyerhaeuser-Domtar merger may be on shacky ground due to
Domatar’s refusal to sign the Softwood Lumber agreement with the U.S.
Sccording to several analysts, the Federal Government may be prepared
to use the Competition Bureau to stall the deal unless Domtar changes its
position.
The Competition Bureau must sign-off on the $3.3-billion merger.
Weyerhaeuser Spokesperson Sarah Goodman says her Company supports the
Softwood Deal and encourages other Companies to do the same and says
Domtar will make up its own mind.
She adds Weyerhaeuser doesn’t expect any problems with the merger.
Other analysts believe Domtar will likely think twice about not signing
the softwood agreement.
