There are legal troubles for Lakehead University in Thunder Bay now that a former dean has filed a lawsuit.
Angelique EagleWoman has given notice of her intent to sue the institution for at least $2.6-million for constructive dismissal and racial discrimination.
Her lawyer says Professor EagleWoman’s ability to lead the law school was continually undermined by the University’s senior administration, regularly making decisions without consulting her.
The claim also cites senior administration going around her to deal directly with faculty and staff without her knowledge.
The university confirms it has received the statement of claim but that they do not comment on litigation or personnel matters.
The allegations have not been proven in court.
EagleWoman had been hired to head up the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law, but left in April complaining of what she believed to be systemic racism.
