An inspirational story of overcoming adversity to achieve greatness from a former resident of Dryden and Ignace.
Alyssa Levesque has found success on the Judo circuit, with two gold medals already under her belt in New Brunswick.
Her most recent first place finish came last weekend at the Fredericton Fall Classic.
The first gold for the 20-year-old came in her very first competition.
Levesque has already gone toe-to-toe with a number of International champions.
Levesque says she’s been struggling with anxiety her whole life, as well as bullying for several years.
She left northwestern Ontario and trained in Mauy Thai fighting in Indonesia for two years.
Levesque moved back to Canada last August and started training in Judo.
Levesque says she uses the sport as a way to learn self-control, as well as deal with her anxiety in many different ways.
She trains up to three times a week and volunteers her time four times a week to teach Judo at Bathurst High School.
Levesque hopes to bring Judo into other peoples lives and dreams one day of fighting in the MMA.
She says she used her past to pursue a fighting career and grow as a person each day.
Levesque adds she is motivated each day to continue with her dream by her amazing support system such as her mom, dad, coach, family and friends.
Her next Judo competition is December 8th in Saint Quinten, NB.
