Local Francophone Community Protests PC Cuts

A small but lively protest was held outside Kenora-Rainy River MPP Greg Rickford’s Dryden office on Saturday.

Members of the local French community gathered to protest a government decision to shut down the Office of the French Language Services Commissioner and shelve plans for a French based University.

Organizer Claudine Savage says they don’t accept the decision that was made, stressing there was no consultations on the move.

Savage notes she was shocked with the decision and the lack of attention it got in the media.

Savage says they want the Doug Ford PC’s to reverse the cuts, stressing they want to be recognized and their rights respected.

She stresses local Francophone’s have a strong voice and are very proud of the their language and their culture.

Rickford wasn’t at his office at the time of the interview.
