Fort Frances area water woes continue

Although the rain has let up for now in the Fort Frances area, more than 60 millimetres of precipitation since Tuesday continues to have an impact.

MTO crews are repairing a section of Highway 11 near the 502 junction, east of Fort Frances, due to a washout.

OPP have closed that section of road to one lane until repairs are complete.

Meantime, boaters and residents along Rainy River are being advised of high water levels by Abitibi-Consolidated in Fort Frances, which monitors levels.

Abitibi officials are opening three more flood gates today on its dam between Rainy Lake and Rainy River which means all 15 flood gates are now open increasing the outflow to Rainy River by one-thousand cubic metres per second.
