A Northwestern Ontario group has exceeded its fundraising goal to help bring a Syrian refugee family to the region.
Families for Families in Fort Frances has raised over $35,000 for the cause.
Spokesperson Kathy Meuller says they hope to have a family of six in place by February.
Meuller says people are still making donations, so they’ll continue the campaign right up until Christmas Eve.
Meuller notes they may be able to bring in another small refugee family if they raise enough money.
She says having another family might make it more comfortable for both knowing someone with the same customs and language.
Meantime, fundraising efforts in Dryden also continue as donations are being accepted to bring the Jandali family to the community.
