Fort Hope First Nation Wins Mining Court Battle

A major victory for First Nations and their demands for being properly consulted about mining development.

An Ontario court has ruled in favour of Eabametoong First Nation and its objection to the way Landore Resources carried out its duties to consult the community about a drilling exploration permit issued by the provincial government.

It also found that the province failed to consult honourably with Fort Hope band officials.

Chief Elizabeth Atlookan states it’s unfortunate that they had to take the legal route to fight for their “rights and way of life.”
