Whitedog First Nation Area Fire Continues To Grow

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is calling Kenora Fire #71, northwest of Whitedog First Nation the fastest growing blaze in the region.

Despite efforts of crews and water bombers, the wildfire has grown another 1,000 hectares in the past day and has been mapped at 3,000 hectares.

Right now fire crews from Saskatchewan, the Great Lakes region of the United States, Alberta and the Northwest Territories are helping to battle it, along with 10 out of province aircraft.

Tuesday, there were 12 new forest fires reported, most in the Red Lake District.

This has resulted in heavy smoke drifting into the Red Lake area.

Currently there are 85 forest fires burning in the region.
