Frances Tamblin

A courageous and much cherished mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend passed from this life on Friday June 28, 2002 of breast cancer. Her last days were spent with family and friends at the Dryden Regional Health Centre. A quiet gathering to acknowledge a life well lived was held on Saturday July 6, at 2:00 p.m. at 529 Parker Road Oxdrift, ON.
If friends wish a donation may be made in Fran’s name to Grace Haven (an adult day program that she enjoyed every Tuesday) 11 Schmidt Cres., Dryden, ON P8N 1R1 or through the Dryden Community Funeral Home, 249 Grand Trunk Ave., Dryden, ON P8N 2X3. Fran was born in Port Arthur, Ontario the only child of Mary (Pickering) and Tom Tinsley. She attended local public schools and Kings Business College. At 18 she married Albert Tamblin and they spent 2 wonderful years at Long Point on Lake Erie where Albert was a lighthouse beacon operator. Fran was widowed in August 1941 when Albert was killed while flying with the R.A.F. Ferry Command and at this time she returned to Port Arthur where she gave birth to her only daughter Gail. They made their home at 20 Jean Street with Fran’s mother Mary, mother-in-law Mabel and brother-in-law Bert Tamblin. During this time she supported the family by working for the city transit department and later Homes for the Aged retiring in 1984. Fran had a wide variety of interests. She spent many years as an Akela and commissioner with the Boy Scouts of Canada. She was an amateur radio operator VE3 BVT. She enjoyed fly-in fishing trips with her companion John Clark and playing bridge with her friends. She loved travelling in Canada and for many years she and her friend Helen rode off into the sunset with their Boler trailer in tow. Her proudest achievement was graduating from Lakehead University with a degree in Business Administration at the age of 62. In 1996 Fran with her dog Katie moved to Oxdrift ON to make her home with her daughter Gail and son-in-law Bernie Hall (late) where she enjoyed the peacefulness of the country, the companionship of newfound friends and fishing on Rugby Lake. Fran leaves a legacy of good humour, generosity, strength, unconditional love and most importantly open mindedness and tolerance of other races, religions and cultures with her daughter Gail and grandchildren Joanne Hall and Sophie Hall de Francesco; Susan Hall and Kevin Glenister; Brian and Jennifer, Graham, Calvin and Violet Hall; Mary Hall and Corrie Trist and her close nieces, nephews and friends. “Goodnight Mom. I’ll see you in the morning”.
