Some fresh blood for weary firefighters in Northwestern Ontario.
The Ministry of Natural Resources says they are starting to recycle out-of-Province firefighters, with new crews starting to come in.
Information Officer Carin Glassford says staffing levels remain the same but notes the move comes at a great time.
There are 2,000 personnel working on the more than 116 forest fires, with over 600 from out-of-Province.
600-fires have been reported this season, with over 560,000 hectares of land consumed.
That’s the third highest on record since 1917.
The MNR says the long term forecast suggests that smoke isn’t expected to be an issue in Northwestern Ontario the next 7 to 10 days.
However, Glassford warns that a drying trend is expected to roll in from Western Canada that could increase fire activity and bring back smokey conditions.
