Funding Approved For New Correctional Facility In Thunder Bay

It’s news the City of Thunder Bay has been eagerly awaiting.

The province is green lighting money for a new 325-bed multi-purpose correctional centre.

It will replace the now decrepit 100 year old provincial jail.

Thunder Bay MPP Bill Mauro says the new building will help increase capacity and reduce overcrowding by taking a new, collaborative approach to infrastructure that engages staff.

Mauro adds although there are a lot of unknowns right now like where, when and how much it will cost this announcement secures the funding for the future.

The province also announced that they are setting up a Community Advisory Board for our community that will serve as a link between the correctional institution and our community that hosts it.
