Ontario Jails Over-Using Segregation

The provincial government is looking at legislation to reduce the use segregation in Ontario’s prisons.

A recent report released by Howard Sapers to the Ontario Human Rights Commission suggests there is systemic overuse of segregation.

Correctional Services Minister Marie-France Lalonde says they take the results of the report seriously.

According to Sapers report, more than 13 hundred inmates were placed into segregation last year for more than 60 days at a time.
