A home-building company in Kenora that could become a model for Northwestern Ontario’s value-added forest industry has received $1.2-million from the Provincial Government.
The money for Wincrief Forestry Products, a $700,000 grant and a $500,000 loan, is to help the plant grow and start a utility pole division.
The company, which started up over a year ago, builds modular homes for the region’s First Nations.
About 20 people work at the plant, half of whom are aboriginal.
The operation aims to double the workforce once it reaches full production.
