Funding Woes for Child Agency

A loss of $600,000 in Provincial funding has the Family and Children’s Services in the Rainy River District in a deficit situation for the first time in almost three years.
It’s forced the agency to halt training and consider staff reductions from Atikokan to Fort Frances to maintain services.
Board Chair Bob McGreevy says they’re also hoping the province will restore at least some of the funding.
McGreevy says part of the challenge is providing services in an area that stretches some 300 kilometres.
He adds they’re dealing with high costs to assist two children with high needs, something the agency hasn’t had to deal with for some time.
