Future of 9-1-1 in Area

Communities such as Sioux Lookout, Ignace, Machin and Eagle Lake First Nation have had 9-1-1 service for almost four weeks now and so far its been a huge success.
However, The Dryden and Surrounding Area Committee says more work still needs to be done.
Committee Chair, Maryanne Legross says the next step is to work on public education to know how and when to use 9-1-1.
Legross says they will soon visit area schools and undertake an advertising campaign.
The new service, which was launched December 14th, allows operators to identify the phone number and address of the caller, and calls are automatically transferred to emergency service providers.
Police want to remind people that 9-1-1 is for emergency purposes only.
