The highest honour in Canada for Lac Seul First Nation elder Garnet Angeconeb.
The former journalist and Sioux Lookout Councillor has been invested into the Order of Canada.
Angeconeb says he’s honoured and humbled but stresses the medal belongs to the people he worked with, the community and the region.
He notes his work with Wawatay and his association with the Aboriginal Healing Foundation are his fondest memories and they both helped him get to where he is now.
Angeconeb was heavily involved in the Aboriginal Health Foundation and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.
