George Wall

George Alfred Wall, 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 2. He will be missed by his partner of 13 years, Ruth Rossiter, his five children: Susan (Bob), Alma, Linda, Ted and Jack (Candi), nine grandchildren: David, Jason, Patrick, Peter, Christopher, Jennifer, Sean, Cynthia and Glenda as well as three great grandchildren: Brooklyn, Aaron and Ethan.

George was predeceased by his wife Alice, his parents, Timothy and Jenny, brothers, Arthur and William and sister, Florence.

He will be remembered by family and friends for the twinkle in his eyes, his cheeky grin and his zest and passion for life. As a young man, he returned from serving overseas with the Canadian Army to take up farming on acreage next to the family farm in Aubrey Township. There, he and Alice raised five children along with every imaginable farm animal and pet.

George was employed for many years in the Woodlands division and retired in 1982 from his position as a ‘dozer operator. He acquired a bulldozer of his own to clear land on the farm and kept himself busy and entertained for many years. Indeed, no tree was safe! In their retirement George and Alice loved to travel, and at 70, his dare-devil attitude led him to try parasailing in the Bahamas. He was always up for excitement, whether it was travelling, visiting family and friends, playing cards, hunting, fishing or just sharing his life story with new friends. He and Ruth kept busy in recent years gardening and attending family get-togethers and community events. They enjoyed their involvement in the senior’s clubs of Vermilion Bay and Eagle River, participating in many bus trips, dinners and cribbage tournaments. George’s woodworking shop produced numerous items that were generously shared with family and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Dryden Regional Health Centre for the care provided to George over the past few months. Family and friends will gather at the Oxdrift Community Hall on Friday, September 7 at 2pm to remember him. Donations may be made to the Oxdrift Volunteer Fire Team or to the 4H Clubs of Dryden through the Dryden Community Funeral Home 249 Grand Trunk Ave., Dryden, ON P8N 2X3.
