New regulations for crossing the International border could have an
impact on tourism in Northwestern Ontario.
By 2008, Canadians entering and Americans re-entering the United States
will be required to produce passports instead of only a drivers license.
Thunder Bay-Rainy River MP Ken Boshcoff fears many Americans may not
want to go through the hassle of getting a passport to come to Canada.
He believes cross border trade shouldn’t be affected but he adds
tourism may take a hit from the new rules.
For air and sea travel between the 2-countries, passport requirements
will kick in at the end of next year.
