Glen Johnson

The death of Glen Johnson occurred at the Dryden Regional Health Centre on July 30 at the age of 74.

Glen was born at Rockpoint, SK, on Jul 9, 1940. He grew up on the family farm and received his education at Rockpoint School. He often told stories about walking or riding his horse, Betty, two miles to school and two miles back.

On Christmas of 1967, he came to Dryden to visit his sister, Evelyn, and has remained ever since. He worked for Kron’s Transport from 1957 until 1959, at which time he was hired by the local mill. Glen started in the Stores Department and advanced to become the Stores Supervisor/Superintendent. Many co-workers have noted that he had a photographic memory and was always willing to assist them.

Glen had a stroke in 1995 which caused him to leave his work.

In Glen’s earlier years, he was a first baseman in the fastball league, and he always enjoyed curling. He coached boys t-ball and softball, and remained interested in the activities of his children. He was well known for baseball games, sitting behind the umpire, and silently commenting on his calls. He looked forward to his early morning coffee sessions with his buddies. Glen also enjoyed camping, watching the campfire and travelling. His annual trips to numerous parts of the world have left lasting memories.

Left to cherish his memory are his three loving children; Glenda, Darren (Leanna), and Brian (Ashleigh); his loving wife, Isabel, whom Glen met in 1966 after she moved from Madoc, ON to nurse at the local hospital; and his three granddaughters, Timber, Maggie, and Paityn. He is also survived by his sisters; Helen Sukanen of Outlook, SK and Mavis of Edmonton, AB, and his brother Robert of Drumheller, AB and numerous nieces and nephews, including Cheryl Madgwick and family of Dryden.

He was predeceased by his father, Neil, mother, Hilda, brothers, Albert and Clifford, and sisters, Irene, Evelyn, and Myrtle.

Funeral services will be held at the First United Church at 11 am on Wednesday August 6, 2014 at with Reverend Hewitt Holmes officiating.

Cremation has already taken place with interment of ashes in the Dryden Cemetery.
