Goldcorp Fined

Goldcorp has been fined $225,000 for environmental
violations at 2 of its Northern Ontario operations.
The offences involve the companies Red Lake and Wilanour mines.
Court heard that in the spring of 2003, Goldcorp expanded construction
at both sites without notifying Ontario’s Environment Ministry.
In September 2004, the company discharged approximately 110,000
cubic metres of effluent to Bruce Channel of Red Lake without reporting it
to the Ministry.
The company pleaded guilty on Monday to the sewage infractions.
