In Loving Memory of Gordon A. Halverson.
Gordon Arnold Halverson was born on December 31, 1932 in Berglund, Ontario to Anna and Ben Halverson. He moved to Nestor Falls in 1937 to the family’s tourist camp; working there as a guide until he was 18. From there he gained employment with the Canadian National Railroad for a short period of time. Subsequently Gordon met his lifelong companion and married Betty Halverson (nee Woolsey) in 1954. Moving to camp Robinson in 1955, he was engaged in the logging industry and the building of roads for Mando Contracting. Gordon worked for this contractor in several areas until 1974. Moving on to Grande Prairie, Alberta working for Cutbank Logging until 1977. That was also the year they lost their youngest son Richard in Grande Prairie. Returning then to the Kenora area during the Fall of 1977 he worked for various logging companies and pipeline contractors until his retirement in 1997. In his leisure time Gordon enjoyed the outdoors being an avid hunter and fisherman. Camping and spending time with his family, and sharing his love for nature meant very much to him. He loved music, and demonstrated that by playing his guitar, and singing with his family. Gordon passed away on December 15th, 2002. He is survived by his loving wife and constant companion Betty, son Gary (Fran) from Calgary, Alberta, daughters Kathie (Chuck) Cadger from Kenora, Brenda (Vic) Giving, also from Kenora, and Judy Lozej of Northern Saskatchewan. He will also be sadly missed by 13 grand children and 4 great grandchildren to carry on for him. Surviving also are brothers Emil, Morris both of Nestor Falls, Bob (Arlene) of Thunder Bay, a sister Betty (Richard) of Nestor Falls. Numerous nieces and nephews will also miss him. He was predeceased by his parents, sister Pearl, brothers Bill, Leo, Harvey and Richard. A son Richard predeceased him in 1977. He’ll be missed by all who knew and loved him. Visitation for the late Gordon Halverson was held at the Dryden Community Funeral Home on Wednesday December 18, 2002 from 1:00 pm till service time. Funeral Services for the late Gordon Halverson were held on Wednesday December 18, 2002 at 3:00 p.m. with Mr. John Mulders officiating. Cremation to follow and interment of ashes at a later date. In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation through the Dryden Community Funeral Home, 249 Grand Trunk Ave., Dryden, ON P8N 2X3
