The Province of Ontario has fined private road maintenance contractors $48-million for poor winter road maintenance.
However, according to a new report, companies have only paid about $15-million of those fines.
Premier Kathleen Wynne says there are some extenuating circumstances for some of the companies.
Wynne says the fines are sometimes offset by an agreement by the company to purchase more equipment.
Wynne adds some of the companies are challenging the fines, so it’s taking some time to resolve the issue.
So far this winter there have been no major complaints in the Kenora riding on road maintenance.
