Gov’t Workers Say Province Pushing For Strike

Another round of information pickets from provincial government workers.
Unionized protesters are out again today in Thunder Bay, a month after the bargaining team was given a 90 % strike mandate from OPSEU members.
Local union spokesperson Sandra Snider says the government hasn’t moved an inch from their inital proposals, and would rather force employees into a strike than negotiate a fair deal.
Snider says the employer has begun the process of negotiating essential services, adding the current contract offer will freeze wages and cut benefits.
No strike deadline has been set.
The picket comes a week after it was announced ServiceOntario is closing its doors in Ear Falls.
