The famous “Grandparent Scam” has reared its ugly head once again in northwestern Ontario.
Typically, a person receives a phone call from a con-artist claiming to be a grandchild or child.
The caller claims they are in trouble, scared and need money right away.
Usually they report being in a car crash or in trouble with police in a foreign country and need bail money.
In most cases, seniors are the target.
They are asked to send money by credit card or a transfer such as Money Gram or Western Union.
A Kenora resident was recently defrauded out of $2,000 after falling victim to the scam.
