Grassy Narrows Audio

A group of protestors are blocking Highway 17 near Kenora in support
of Grassy Narrows First Nation.
About 100-people are calling for an end to clearcut logging by
Weyerhaeuser and Abitibi-Consolidated on their traditional land.
The Environmental group ‘Rainforest Action Network’ is taking part in the action and
Spokesperson Shelia Pizey-Allen describes the scene.

n080 runs: 22 sec. out…being blocked.

Other protestors have locked themselves to cement filled oil drums
and even to the axle of a Weyerhaeuser logging truck.
OPP are on scene and are expected to issue a statement shortly.
Pizey-Allen says no decision on the length of the blockade has been
made.
Motorists heading west can avoid the blockade by going through Kenora
as the protestors are on the Bypass.
