A group of protestors are blocking Highway 17A near Kenora in support
of Grassy Narrows First Nation.
About 100-people are calling for an end to clearcut logging by
Weyerhaeuser and Abitibi-Consolidated on their traditional land.
A 30-foot tall tripod has been erected on the Trans-Canada and
protestors have locked themselves to cement filled oil drums and even to the axel of a Weyerhaeuser logging truck.
OPP are on scene.
The protestors say they will block the highway for the rest of the day or until Police kick them off the site.
Motorists can avoid the blockade by going through Kenora
as the protestors are on the Bypass.
