Members of the Grassy Narrows First Nation and Wabaseemoong, along with local supporters held a protest in Dryden.
They are calling for the immediate closure of the Dryden pulp mill.
The rally was held yesterday across from the mill in Cooper Park.
“Our people came to Dryden today because our families are sick and still suffer from the impacts of mercury poisoning,” said Chief Sherry Ackabee of Grassy Narrows.
“The Dryden mill is making that poison worse every day. Where is Premier Ford, and will he finally step up and shut down the mill?”
A 2024 study showed the mill continues to contribute to mercury poisoning in the Wabigoon River.
The First Nation says more than 90 percent of it’s community members show signs of mercury poisoning.
