Grassy Narrows First Nation is demanding Weyerhaeuser and
Abitibi-Consolidated to stop logging an area on its reserve.
The First Nation is warning the Companies that they’ll face a fierce
protest unless they stop.
Weyerhaeuser Spokesperson Bonnie Skene says they don’t have any control
over the matter.
Skene stresses they don’t manage the Forest Management Plan for that area.
She adds the plan for the Whiskyjack meets all Provincial regulations
and guidelines and is certified by a third party.
Advocates say unsustainable logging has polluted waters and nearly
wiped out the ability to practice an aboriginal way of life.
