The Green candidate for the Kenora riding knows it’s going to be quiet the challenge, but she’s ready to go up against the big political heavyweights in the upcoming federal election.
Ember McKillop is facing a daunting task against veterans Howard Hampton, Bob Nault and incumbent Greg Rickford
McKillop, a teacher in Dryden, says people are ready for change and notes the Green platform is fit for growth without impacting the environment.
Her priorities including improving First Nations education and giving aboriginal leaders more of a voice at the table.
She says the region is facing low graduation rates for aboriginal students and notes they deserve the same opportunities as others.
McKillop stresses First Nations leaders have the solutions and know what they need to improve their situation and adds it’s time someone listens to them.
The former Pickle Lake resident adds creating long-term and secure jobs is also high on her priority list.
McKillop says all our eggs are in one basket with resource development but notes the are really needs long term visions and not short term gains.
She notes more secure jobs will lead to an increase in the standard of living.
Her campaign will be mostly centred on social media but notes she has contacts across the region and she will be reaching out to First Nations leaders.
