Federal Green Party leader Elizabeth May says she hopes crossing the floor won’t hurt the re-election campaign of a regional MP.
Bruce Hyer left the NDP caucus and joined the Green’s, while protesting party discipline over a vote to scrap the gun registry.
May says, while Hyer made a commitment to Thunder Bay-Superior North when he was elected, things changed once NDP leadership changed with the death of Jake Layton.
She says voters will have to consider which promise was more important, the one Hyer made from the get-go, or the change of instruction from a top-down party.
