Greg Rickford Makes History Becoming New Kenora-Rainy River MPP

History has been made in Kenora-Rainy River.

For the first time since the riding merger more than 20-years ago, the NDP won’t be in power.

Greg Rickford became the first elected Progressive Conservative MPP Thursday night, easily winning over Glen Archer of the NDP.

The former Federal Cabinet Minister returned to political life after he was defeated by Bob Nault in the last national election.

Rickford ran on a campaign to improve the local health care system and may have a prominent role in the majority Doug Ford government.

Unofficial final results:

106/106 polls

Greg Rickford (PC): 9,693

Glen Archer (NDP): 7,503

Karen Kejick (LIB): 2,118

Ember McKillop (GREEN): 721
