Minister of State and Kenora MP Greg Rickford says his expenses barely exceed those as his counterparts in Thunder Bay.
Rickford claimed $480,000 in expenses in the last fiscal year compared to John Rafferty at $459,000 and Bruce Hyer at $428,000.
Rickford notes the largest Thunder Bay riding is 10-times smaller than the Kenora riding and he must travel to 25-remote northern communities.
Rickford says he fully supports the new reporting system.
He says the government treats transparency and accountability as the number one priority.
Rickford adds his office staff and his ministerial staff are instructed to be available to be accountable and publish how they use taxpayer money.
He notes the Board of Internal Economy has representation from all parliamentary caucus members and continues to move forward on the reporting of MP expenses.
Rickford stresses this is a step in the right direction.
