Greyhound Bus Lines has taken exception to one of the key recommendations of an inquest which looked into the death of Mary Louise Lent near Upsala in December of 2000.
The jury suggested three point seatbelts be installed in all passenger buses in order to reduce the chance of injury during an accident.
Terry Graves is a lawyer representing Greyhound.
He says cost is not a factor in rejecting seatbelts for passenger buses and suggests maintaining the safety of passengers has to be the primary goal.
Graves says that installing seatbelts on Greyhound Buses will not reduce injuries or fatalities to any significant extent.
The inquest jury came out with 17-recommendations, eight of which were aimed at improving safety on Greyhound buses.
Graves says the company is willing to act on some of the recommendations.
