Gun Registry Bickering Continues

The gun registry debate continues.
A coalition of groups is calling on all members of the NDP caucus to save the gun registry as the party debates the issue at a meeting in Regina.
In an open letter to New Democrats, the groups, including the Canadian Labour Congress and the YWCA, say the registry is a good tool for keeping people safe.
NDP Leader Jack Layton has said a vote next Wednesday on a Conservative private member’s bill to scrap the registry will be free.
But there is pressure on Layton to force all party members to vote to keep the registry.
Meantime, the Federal Liberals are alleging the National Rifle Association is quietly supporting the Conservatives’ bid to scrap the controversial long-gun registry.
Liberal House leader David McGuinty says the U-S gun lobby has no business being involved in a Canadian debate.
He’s calling on the Conservatives to “come clean” on their links to N-R-A ahead of the cliffhanger vote.
But McGuinty offers little new evidence of any real ties between the Tories and the U-S group.
