NDP Leader Howard Hampton is proposing a new law to protect seniors from abuse in nursing homes and hospitals.
Hampton is planning a private member’s bill that would establish a special squad to investigate all complaints of abuse against seniors in Health Care facilities.
The Kenora-Rainy River MPP says his plan is based on Manitoba’s experience with a dedicated agency to investigate complaints of senior abuse, which he believes Ontario could duplicate for $4.5 million a year.
Hampton also wants whistle-blower protection for staff who report abuse in hospitals and nursing homes.
