Harper Government on “Probation”

Periodic economic status reports to Parliament are the price the
Liberals are putting on their support for the federal budget.
Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff says he wants to keep a close
eye on whether the (b) billions of dollars in stimulus spending
promised in the budget actually gets out the door.
Ignatieff says the reports starting in March will hold the
government accountable.
It would face the threat of defeat if it doesn’t actually
implement the budget’s measures or if those measures fail to have
the desired effect.
The N-D-P and the Bloc Quebecois have already said they’ll vote
against the budget and Liberal support is vital if the Conservative
government is to survive. (9)
