The Federal Government has promised post secondary institutions $2-billion in infrastructure funds.
The money will be used to repair, improve and expand Colleges and Universities.
Confederation College President Pat Lang says they’re happy to hear the Conservative’s announcement, but notes Colleges will only receive 30% of the
2-billion earmarked.
Lang says they may use additional funds to enhance equipment and technology.
But, she points out they are not looking at expanding any of their Regional Campuses.
Lang adds she’s pleased the Minority Government announced $1.5-billion in training for laid off workers and an additional $8.5-billion for skilled trades.
Former NDP Candidate for the Kenora Riding Tanya Cameron is not pleased with Tuesday’s federal budget.
Cameron says the $12 billion infrastructure package puts the region’s communities between a rock and a hard place.
She notes municipalities can’t afford to pay one-third of the costs as required.
Meantime, Cameron says she intends to throw her hat into the ring for the NDP’s nomination in the next federal election.
