Be prepared for anything!
That message from CKDR Entertainment Reporter Jimmy Hollywood, who has returned home after being evacuated for about a week due to the deadly California wildfires.
Jimmy says emergency officials banged on his door last Thursday and ordered him to leave immediately.
He describes a harrowing scene in his Calabasas neighbourhood, one of the hardest hit areas.
Jimmy says he lives in a canyon and there’s only one way in and one way out, stressing all three mountains caught on fire.
He had to drive on the sidewalk to avoid the fire trucks.
Jimmy says “he looked over his left and here’s the fire coming over the ridge. I looked to my right and here’s the fire coming over the ridge. Both sides of the freeway but luckily I got out of there.”
Back at home, Jimmy says the flames were 50-feet from his doorstep but his home was saved thanks to his neighbours who decided to stay behind.
He says they used garden hoses and buckets of water to save his home.
Jimmy stresses it’s amazing what people will do when they have to.
The California wildfires have now claimed 59-lives, with some 130 still missing.
