Hazardous Waste Day A Record Breaking One

It was a record breaking Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day in the City of Dryden.

The Rotary Club says 555 vehicles attended the Public Works Yard on September 19.

Roger Gould says they diverted nearly 27,815 kilograms of bleachable materials from the landfill and that includes paints and adhesives.

Gould adds they collected 3,315 litres of toxic materials including pharmaceuticals, pesticides and cleaning chemicals.

Other highlights:

-2,725 litres of reactive materials (cleaning chemicals, liquid mercury)
-3,075 litres of ignitable and flammable materials (fuel and petroleum items, propane tanks)

Gould adds “We did collect four pallets of used batteries. All the batteries will be returned to our supplier and we will be getting a cheque for those and they’ll be put back into Rotary functions throughout our region.”

The free service is a joint effort between Rotary, the City and Miller Environmental.
