131-health care agencies in Northwestern Ontario warn of dire times ahead.
The Northwestern Ontario District Health Council has released the results of a 12-month study examining the entire sector.
Executive Director Gwen Dubois-Wing says the results show the region has more vacancies in health care occupations than in any part of the province.
She adds some 720-workers would need to be hired in the next two years to fill vacancies.
A Northwestern Ontario Transition Committee will be set up to establish a region health recruitment and retention council.
The council will provide a united voice to help solve the shortage of health care workers.
