Health Unit Adds 14 New Cases

14 new cases of COVID-19 are being reported Wednesday morning by the Northwestern Health Unit.

They tell us that 11 come from the Kenora health hub, two from the Emo area and one from the Sioux Lookout region.

Wauzhushk Onigum Nation reported eight new cases Tuesday, though it’s not known if they are included in the NWHU’s report Wednesday morning. Chief Chris Skead says he will be going live on Facebook Wednesday afternoon around 3:00 pm CST.

The latest data from the regional health authority has 54 active cases within their catchment area.

The NWHU says 20 are in the Sioux Lookout area, 17 in the Kenora region, 13 in the Emo health hub, three in the Fort Frances area and one in the Dryden hub.

There are currently two hospitalizations due to COVID-19 in the region, while 20,625 doses of vaccine have been administered.

That number translates to just over 25 per-cent of the entire population within the Northwestern Health Unit catchment area having received at least one dose, with just over 32 per-cent of those 18 and over.

The NWHU is reporting 784 of the 838 total cases in the region are resolved.

As for the Thunder Bay District Health Unit, there are six new and 52 active cases.

Officials also report the 61st death since the start of the pandemic.

In Ontario there are 4,212 new cases along with 32 deaths.
