The Federal Government wants the Northwestern Health Unit to take over immunization of First Nations north of Sioux Lookout.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Pete Sarsfield says they’ll take on the responsibity once they receive adequate funding from the province.
The Sioux Lookout Hospital used to distribute vaccine to 28-remote Northern communities but stopped when they were no longer a Federal facility.
When the Health Unit decides to take over immunization, they will be responsible for all vaccines including rabies, influenza, measles and mumps.
