The Northwestern Health Unit doesn’t believe a COVID-19 outbreak in the Town Rainy River is travel related.
There are as many as six cases in that community.
Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Kit Young Hoon says “There are a couple of them that are connected. That are obviously connected. But for the most part the connections aren’t clear at this point in the investigation.”
Young Hoon say they may know the origins once all contact tracing is completed.
“It is very challenging for a disease like this to really know exactly where it comes from. So at this point I really can’t give you any clear indication of where those cases have potentially contracted COVID-19 from and how it could have led to this cluster happening right now.”
She says given its presence, everyone in the district should be vigilant in following public health recommendations.
There’s also an active case in the Fort Frances area.
