Ontario Looking At Border Monitoring Program

He’s not calling it a border closure, but Kenora-Rainy River MPP Greg Rickford says the province is looking at ways to limit the flow of motorists at our borders.

Rickford says it’s all part of the lockdown which will be going into effect on Boxing Day.

“We have some flexibility in the orders to take a look at monitoring activities. Obviously this is a huge constitutional issue but we have had discussions with the Solicitor General about the prospect of engaging in some kind of monitoring activities at the border points.”

Rickford says this is something that has been “more than discussed”.

The Northern Development Minister notes it’s more difficult to control our borders in southern Ontario, but easier in the north when we have a single lane highway going into Manitoba.
