The Northwestern Health Unit has already started to look at recommendations contained in a new three year strategic plan.
The plan was unveiled to local leaders last month and Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kit Young-Hoon says they are already looking at changing some of their programming and staff training.
She adds they can’t move forward without community engagement.
Young-Hoon says it’s important to work with school boards, social services boards, health care agencies and First Nations partners and organizations.
She stresses the partnerships are already in place, but notes she wants to take them to the next level and strengthen them.
The strategy is based on two central themes; creating healthy public policy and health equity, addressing issues such as food security, housing and poverty.
It also focuses on four distinct groups; Indigenous people, children and youth, seniors and vulnerable populations.
