The Northwestern Health Unit is reporting nine new COVID-19 cases in the Kenora area.
Most of the cases are in the Municipality, with four cases in two schools and at least one case in a daycare.
All of those infected are now in isolation and follow-up is underway with known contacts.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kit Young Hoon says “The case investigation is still ongoing and we’re trying to gather those type of details and put them all together to see if they are linked. I think at this point I can say that there’s no obvious linkages between all these cases.”
She can’t say if we’ve reached the second wave.
“I think with nine cases in one day it does mean that people living in the Kenora area need to have a heightened awareness and be more vigilant for COVID-19. It’s very important for them to follow the public health measures.”
That includes physical distancing, wearing a mask or face covering in an enclosed space, good hand hygiene, avoiding touching your face and staying home if you are sick.
She is urging the public to be patient when calling the COVID-19 hotline and when you visit an Assessment Centre due to high volumes of traffic and calls.
The hotline number is 1-866-468-2240.
