Non-Essential Travel Not Recommended

Non-essential travel outside northern Ontario is not recommended at this time.

The advisory comes from the Northwestern Health Unit after an increase in cases in Manitoba and southern Ontario.

There are also nine active cases in this region.

Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kit Young Hoon recommends you stay close to home.

“I think individuals can travel within Northern Ontario but they should still follow good public health measures and we encourage physical distancing.”

She adds “Often with people who are travelling to meet extended family members it may be challenging to physically distance. We need to recognize that you have a relatively small social bubble that should include the minimum household or a maximum 10 people. That bubble should not change.”

Dr. Kit Young Hoon says people should perform a risk assessment before leaving the area and determine whether the purpose of your trip is worth the risk of potentially contracting the virus and bringing it back to our area.
