Three Kenora schools are reporting positive tests for COVID-19.
The Kenora Catholic District School Board says both Ste Margarite Bourgeoys and St. Thomas Aquinas are affected by one case each.
The Keewatin Patricia District School Board says there have been two positive exposures at Valleyview.
The school boards say the classes or cohorts that have been affected have been closed and students and teachers affected are asked to stay away until the Health Unit tells them it’s okay to return to class.
It’s not known if the cases involve a student, teacher of staff member.
The school boards are now working closely with the Northwestern Health Unit on the next steps and making sure all potential risks are minimized.
Everyone in the impacted classes and cohorts have been contacted.
Director of Education at the Catholic Board Derek Haime says they had plans in place for several weeks for just such an occurrence.
“We’ve actually rehearsed those plans with the Northwest Health Unit and those were put into action last evening under the guidance of the Northwest Health Unit.”
Haime adds he knows their public health partners have got things well in hand.
There are now nine new cases in the Kenora area.
Meantime, Ontario has broken another record for the most new COVID-19 cases reported in a single day.
Health officials confirm 732 new cases Friday, bringing the provincial total to 52,980.
The previous single-day high was reported Monday when 700 cases were logged.
Ontario also recorded three new COVID-19-related fatalities.
