Many of us are headed outside this weekend to enjoy a cool beverage and some rays now that the sun is finally out.
That has prompted the Northwestern Health Unit to issue a reminder about new provincial rules surrounding smoking.
The new amendments prohibit smoking on bar and restaurant patios, smoking within 20-metres from the perimeter of playgrounds and public sports fields and selling tobacco on university and college campuses.
Health Promoter Christine McLeod says the changes provide a nice clean and healthy environment for people to live and play in.
McLeod says the legislation protects children and families from second-hand smoke and reduces the exposure of tobacco use.
It also makes it more difficult for youth to get access to tobacco products.
Enforcement is on a complaint basis and violations can be reported to any Health Unit office.
